DRIVERS ED STUDENTS AND PARENTS SAVE MONEY ONLINE AND GET TAX REBATE

GAONLINEDRIVERSED.COM ... Great News for students and parents taking Drivers Education in Georgia. You can now take it online and save hundreds. I was in the process of enrolling my daughter at one of the local high schools, just as I had done with my sons before her when she mentioned to me that this can now be done online. I went to the Georgia Department of Driver Services website noticed that because of a law passed by the legislature (Joshua's Law) that Drivers Ed is offered online. This fufills the same 30 hour course for Drivers License and Insurance discounts as taking the classroom course. Of course there is a driving element that must be completed as well. That too can be done by the parents and is what I intend to do. It requires filling out a log of driving with your student that encompasses 40 hours of driving and at least 6 of those hours being at night. Of course, you could still hire out this portion with a local driving school or high school where the instructors would drive with your student for 6 hours.

Not sure how many other parents out there are like me and had no idea of this online and parent taught option, so thought I would post it here in case you too had not heard of this option.

I also discovered that taking Drivers Ed through a private company gives a tax credit on your GA taxes of up to $150. For some reason, this tax credit is not available from public high schools. The link to this credit is here and the specific page is page 3... https://etax.dor.ga.gov/inctax/2008_forms/TSD_Individual_Income_Tax_Credit_INDCR-2008-_Fillable.pdf

One more thing. There are a number of online courses offered on the Georgia Department of Driver Services website. I clicked through most of them and they range in price from around $100 to the lowest I saw of $55. I booked the $55 as it is approved by Georgia and looked to be very professional and I could not see why to pay more for a similar 30 hour course with the same goal in mind of getting my student ready to pass the test and prepared for the road. I actually called and talked to the owner and found that they developed this course and have it approved in 6 states and that their children had gone through it as well. That company is Virtual Drive of Georgia and as indicated above its course can be reached at gaonlinedriversed.com . In today's tough economic times, hope this helps someone else as it has helped me.
